The Pittsburgh Steelers added to their quarterback room on Monday, reportedly agreeing to a two-year deal with free agent Mitchell Trubisky.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Trubisky chose Pittsburgh over the New York Giants because he reportedly felt it gave him the best chance to get on the field and be a starter again. Per a new report, he will have to beat out one other signal caller to start for the Steelers.
Longtime Steelers writer Gerry Dulac said the team intends for Trubisky to “challenge” Mason Rudolph to be the replacement for Ben Roethlisberger. Rudolph was the team’s primary backup last season.
The Steelers plan to have Trubisky challenge Mason Rudolph as the replacement for Ben Roethlisberger, per sources. The deal does not affect Rudolph’s status with the team and he is not expected to be traded or ask for a trade.

If we were laying down money, Trubisky seems to be a good bet to win that quarterback competition. The Steelers wouldn’t have pursued him–and he wouldn’t have signed there–if they didn’t project him as the team’s QB1.
The No. 2 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Trubisky was the Chicago Bears’ primary starter for four seasons. He spent last year backing up Josh Allen in Buffalo.
Now, he’ll have the chance to jumpstart his career in black and gold, needing only to hold off Rudolph to do so.
