REPORT: Raiders “Planning to Move On” From 7-INT Cornerback – Panthers, Ravens Top Landing Spots

April 7, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Jack Jones Raiders

Pete Carroll is now the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, and his tenure could begin with a Jack Jones trade. A fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Jones has flashed potential with the Raiders and New England Patriots throughout his three-year career. However, he can’t keep out of trouble, notably bringing loaded handguns to an airport and causing off-field headaches with multiple organizations. While he has recorded seven interceptions through his first 42 games, Carroll reportedly feels his on-field production doesn’t justify his off-field distractions.

According to Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Raiders are trying to trade Jack Jones but will release him on Monday if the team cannot find a suitor. This is the second bridge Jones has burned in his short time in the league, so Vegas won’t get a large return for his services. However, whether it’s claiming him after a release or sending a conditional late-round pick for his services, the Carolina Panthers and Baltimore Ravens could kick the tires on the veteran.

The @Raiders are working to trade CB Jack Jones.

But if they can’t work out a trade, Jones will be released on Monday.

REPORT: Raiders Will Trade Or Release Jack Jones Before NFL Draft

The Carolina Panthers had arguably the worst defense in football last year, and it’s impossible to completely overhaul the entire unit in just one offseason. While the team extended Pro Bowler Jaycee Horn and retained Mike Jackson, there is still work to be done here. Jack Jones is anything but a safe bet, but the Raiders cornerback has a ball-hawking nature that should thrive in a weak NFC South.

After a rough first year and a half, Bryce Young finally played like a franchise cornerback down the stretch in 2025. This didn’t result in wins, largely because the defense couldn’t hold up their end of the bargain. With an improved defensive line, a cornerback like Jones could turn this grouping into a league-average unit, or slightly above. If Young continues to develop, that might be enough to win a division that should be up for grabs.

High-Risk, High-Reward Ravens

After coming up just short in the postseason for the past few seasons, the Baltimore Ravens know how important pass defense is to hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. After all, if the team wants to play in the big game, they’ll need to take down Joe Burrow’s Bengals, Josh Allen’s Bills, and Patrick Mahomes’s Chiefs. While Marlon Humphrey and first-round pick Nate Wiggins are a solid duo, there is no such thing as too many reliable cornerbacks.

The Ravens knew this when they traded for Tre’Davious White during the 2024 deadline. Unfortunately, the former Bill had nothing left in his tank and couldn’t provide much help for Baltimore down the stretch. Jack Jones should be a different story as, from a physical standpoint, the Raiders cornerback should be in the prime of his career. The Ravens are one of the most stable organizations in football and have as good a chance as anyone to keep Jones out of trouble. If he misbehaves here, it could spell the end of his career.
