In an attempt to turn things around, Scott Frost is hiring several new coaching assistants at Nebraska.
Nebraska football is reportedly expected to hire former TCU running backs coach Bryan Applewhite to serve at the same position on Frost’s staff.
Applewhite has worked at TCU the last two years. Prior to his stint with the Horned Frogs, he worked at Colorado State for five years.
“Nebraska’s next running backs coach won two national titles as a fullback and paid his coaching dues over 20 years,” writes Sam McKewon of the Omaha World-Herald. “And a mentor he’s known for almost three decades said he’s a sharp recruiter and upbeat motivator. NU is expected to announce as early as Thursday afternoon that Bryan Applewhite has been hired as the Huskers’ running backs coach. Applewhite most recently coached TCU’s running backs for two years.”
Bryan Applewhite expected to be announced as NU’s new RBs coach as early this afternoon.
Talked to one of Applewhite’s mentors, Joe Glenn, about Applewhite’s strengths as a coach.

Bryan Applewhite is the last of Scott Frost’s major hires on the offensive side of the football. It completes a significant overhaul of the staff.
Applewhite will be tasked with helping Frost form a more dynamic rushing attack. Last season, the Huskers largely depended on Adrian Martinez to pick up significant chunks of yardage on the ground. The Huskers would like running backs to get more involved this upcoming season.
We’ll get a first-look at the 2022 Nebraska football team on Apr. 9 in the spring game.
