After making several moves and upgrades throughout the offseason, the biggest trade asset for the Las Vegas Raiders is running back Zamir White. According to a report, the backfield position is a surprise “surplus” where they have a ton of depth between rookie Ashton Jeanty, Raheem Mostert and White. Unfortunately, it means bad news for White as he’s slowly falling down the depth chart. Mostert might be the presumptive backup for Jeanty, but either way, after getting the rookie this year, it means the Raiders could be looking to move on from White. Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Georgia product is entering the final year of his contract and hasn’t been the same since the 2023 campaign.
During that year, he was looking to be a workhorse, recording 397 rushing yards on 84 carries over the final four games of that regular season. Due to a groin injury, which put a setback in White’s production, he couldn’t get back to his old self. While White did receive praise from head coach Pete Carroll, it doesn’t mean his job is secure by any means, but that he could be a reliable trade asset. The Raiders won’t get much in return, and they’ll probably get a late draft pick if they decide to trade White before the 2025 regular season starts.

Best Fits
Los Angeles Chargers
Since the outlook for Najee Harris doesn’t look the best, the Los Angeles Chargers could find themselves back on the market for a running back. White might not be the ideal backfield piece that head coach Jim Harbaugh wants, but if there’s a chance to trade for him at a reliable price tag, they could bring him in for a year. 2025 draft pick Omarion Hampton will likely still start for the season, but even the rookies need help in the backfield to explode into a capable runner.
Washington Commanders
Meanwhile, the Washington Commanders are shopping former 2022 draft pick Brian Robinson Jr. since they feel comfortable with the guys they have around them. Jacory Crosky-Merritt has shown flashes and momentum, especially in the preseason game against the Bengals, and he’s on his way to becoming a possible starter for this running back unit. With Robinson heading elsewhere, the Commanders could still use the depth in rotation. White won’t start, but could fit into this scheme between Crosky-Merritt and veteran Austin Ekeler.
Dallas Cowboys
However, the Dallas Cowboys should be in the market again for a capable running back. They can’t survive with Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams, who haven’t shown any type of promise that they can break out. 2025 draft pick Jaydon Blue looks remarkable, but they could trade for White to give this backfield unit for Dak Prescott some comfort.
New Orleans Saints
Other than Alvin Kamara, the running back unit is one of the worst for the New Orleans Saints. Between Cam Akers, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Kendre Miller, they can do better in this area. Quarterback Spencer Rattler is looking phenomenal, but he will need a strong run game to push that momentum.
