The Russell Westbrook experiment didn’t go the way the Los Angeles Lakers hoped it would this season, as he was unable to really find a role that worked for Frank Vogel’s squad.
With one year remaining on Westbrook’s contract, several NBA insiders believe the Lakers will try to trade the All-Star point guard in the offseason.
If the Lakers do field offers for Westbrook this offseason, they might consider trading him to one of his former teams. According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Lakers are expected to once again discuss trading Westbrook to the Houston Rockets for John Wall.
Wall’s contract isn’t a desirable one, but he might be a better fit in the Lakers’ lineup next to Anthony Davis and LeBron James.
The Lakers and Rockets are expected to again discuss a John Wall-Russell Westbrook swap this summer.

When asked about his future with the Lakers earlier this month, Westbrook hinted that the plan is to return to Los Angeles for next season.
“That’s the plan,” Westbrook said. “But nothing is promised. You kind of have to take it one day at a time each day. Like I’ve said all season long, you’ve got to play the cards you’re dealt. Yes, we want to be able to see what that looks like, what that entails over the course of an 82-game season, but we’re not sure if that’s guaranteed, either. So I just hope that we have a chance to be able to do something.”
In his first season with the Lakers, Westbrook is averaging 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 7.1 assists per game. He currently has a $47 million player option for the 2022-23 season
