After a 14-year playing career with seven different teams, Jared Dudley appears to be on the verge of landing his first NBA coaching gig.
According to longtime NBA scribe Marc Stein, Dudley is in “advanced discussions” with the Dallas Mavericks about an assistant coaching position. He’ll be working under new head coach Jason Kidd, who has already hired Greg St. Jean, Igor Kokoskov and Kristi Toliver to his staff.
Dudley, a 2007 first-round pick out of Boston College, began his career with the Charlotte Bobcats. He later went on to suit up for the Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, Washington Wizards, Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers.
Dudley won a championship with the Lakers in 2020, appearing in 45 regular season games and nine playoff contests for LA.
The Mavericks are in advanced discussions to hire 14-year NBA veteran Jared Dudley as an assistant coach, league sources say.
Dudley spent the last two seasons as a key locker-room voice with the Lakers and won a championship in 2020.

From 2011-13, Dudley averaged double-figures in points per game for three-straight seasons. He finishes his playing career with averages of 7.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per appearance.
With Dallas, Dudley will get to work with a roster that is led by budding superstar point guard Luka Doncic. The Mavericks went 42-30 and lost in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs last season.
