ESPN’s Adam Schefter was trending on social media for all the wrong reasons on Saturday.
The longtime NFL insider broke the news of Dwayne Haskins’ tragic passing, but used some inconsiderate phrasing.
Schefter took serious heat on social media for his tweet, which he ended up deleting. Several current and former NFL players ripped Schefter for the tweet.
The longtime NFL insider is arguably the face of ESPN’s football coverage. It will be interesting to see if the Worldwide Leader releases a statement on Schefter’s controversial tweet.
They are paying Schefter more than many NFL players make.
According to a report from the New York Post, Schefter is raking in close to $10 million/year.
The deals for NFL insider Adam Schefter and NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski are the latest example, as each of the newsbreakers’ contracts will span five years and the ESPN outlay is for a total of more than $80 million with a chance for each of them to make more, The Post has learned.
Schefter will make around $9 million per year, while Wojnarowski will earn in the $7 million range per year from ESPN, according to sources. The discrepancy between the two is by virtue of Schefter’s longer run at ESPN, a higher salary going into negotiations and the power of the NFL.
With deals like that comes a lot of attention, though, and Schefter was rightfully taking a lot of heat on Saturday.
