A Georgia fan who rushed the field during Monday night’s National Championship isn’t just a random nobody.
Per Steven Godfrey, the Georgia fan who rushed the field was Ben Wilson. He was a former walk-on quarterback at the school and was reportedly not arrested.
Wilson spent 20 minutes in what he called “Colts jail” and only got a 24-hour ban from Lucas Oil Stadium.
The UGA fan who rushed the field is Ben Wilson…. A former walk-on QB at UGA. Per sources, he was not arrested last night, but instead spent 20 minutes in what he described as “Colts jail” [a holding cell inside the building] and received a 24 hour band from Lucas Oil Stadium. https://t.co/sGOC2sSOeQ

I guess this is what name recognition gets, even if you break the law and storm the field.
Georgia was able to win the game after that incident after a strong fourth quarter. Georgia led 13-9 in going into the fourth quarter before outscoring Alabama 20-9 to win its first National Championship since 1980.
The Bulldogs were down 19-18 before scoring on offense and then getting a pick-six from their defense as the Crimson Tide were driving.
It snapped Kirby Smart’s four-game losing streak to Nick Saban and also stopped Saban from winning his eighth national title.
Quarterback Stetson Bennett finished with 224 yards and two touchdowns as he outdueled the Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young.
If Georgia goes back to the National Championship next season, there’s no doubt Wilson will be in attendance. He just might know not to run onto the field now.
