Major changes continue to surface for next year’s Ohio State coaching staff.
After three seasons with the Buckeyes program, linebackers coach Al Washington will not return in 2022, per Bucknuts. This news comes just after reports surfaced that defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs was also departing from Columbus.

After previous stints as a defensive assistant for Boston College, Cincinnati and Michigan, Washington joined Ryan Day’s staff as the LBs coach in 2019. Last year, the 37-year-old assistant was offered the defensive coordinator position with the Tennessee Volunteers, but ultimately elected to stay put in Columbus.
This move is one of many so far this offseason. In addition to the acquisition of new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles and the departure of Coombs, the Ohio State program has also reportedly brought in Cincinnati’s Perry Eliano as the safeties coach and former Buckeyes DB Tim Walton as cornerbacks coach.
With Washington out, it’s reportedly believed that Knowles will lead the linebacker unit in 2022.
