It’s safe to say Tiger Woods’ return to golf helped out Friday’s TV ratings for the Masters.
On Saturday afternoon, ESPN announced that its live telecast of the second round of the Masters averaged 3.5 million viewers. That’s a 31 percent increase from last year’s second round, according to Nielsen Fast National data.
Friday’s ratings were the highest ESPN has recorded for the second round of the Masters since 2016.
The telecast peaked at 4.6 million viewers in the 6:30 p.m. ET quarter hour. Woods was competing to make the cut during that time frame, so it’s not a surprise to see such a huge jump in the ratings.

Overall, ESPN’s telecasts for the first two rounds averaged 3.3 million viewers. That’s the highest two-day average since 2018.
Not only are golf fans enjoying Woods’ return to the PGA Tour, they’re watching Scottie Scheffler put on a show. He entered the weekend as the solo leader at 8-under par.
