The Los Angeles Rams have reportedly been in contact with free-agent cornerback Stephon Gilmore ahead of the 2022 season.
If the defending Super Bowl champions are able to land Gilmore this offseason, they would have a former NFL defensive player of the year opposite of All-Pro corner Jalen Ramsey.

“If signed, Gilmore would occupy the outside cornerback role opposite Jalen Ramsey.”

The NFL world took to Twitter to react to what could be the best secondary unit in the league.
“A Rams defense with Donald, Ramsey, Wagner and Gilmore three years ago would have struck fear into the hearts of any mortal man. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a scary combination of players today as well, but all of them together in their primes would have been incredibly powerful,” one fan wrote.

Many fans questioned how the Rams would be able to pull this move off under the salary cap.
“I’m fully convinced that salary cap is not a thing,” one fan wrote.
“Where are the rams finding this cap space??!” anther asked.

The Rams have already made some significant waves in free agency this offseason, including the signings of superstar linebacker Bobby Wagner and former Bears wide receiver Allen Robinson.
In 2021, Gilmore logged his fifth Pro-Bowl selection in his first career season with the Carolina Panthers. The two-time All-Pro corner notched two interceptions and two passes defended through eight games in Charlotte and made $6.2 million as a member of the Panthers organization this past season.
If Gilmore were to agree to a deal with the Rams in 2022, it would likely come at a significant discount compared to what he could get elsewhere in the league.
