Gallup signed with the Raiders on April 29 for a one-year deal that was reportedly up to $3 million. He spent the offseason program and minicamp with the team.
Gallup turned 28 in March. He played six seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. He had 34 catches for 418 yards last season. His best season was in 2019 when he 66 catches for 1,107 yards. He has dealt with injuries often in his career.
Gallup was expected to compete with second-year player Tre Tucker as the No. 3 receiver and he was likely be in the back-end of the playing rotation. In addition to Gallup retiring, the Raiders put fellow free-agent wide receiver Jalen Guyton on the PUP list to start training camp.
That will give some young receivers a chance to make a push for the 53-man roster. Among the names to watch include Tulu Griffin, Kristian Wilkerson, Alex Bachman, DJ Turner and Tyreik McAllister. The team could also add at the position now or after the roster cuts are made next month.
