How did the draft class fare in loss to Chiefs?
Let’s look at how the Las Vegas Raiders’ rookie class fared in a 27-20 home loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 8 and what it means heading into a Week 9 road game at the Cincinnati Bengals. Kickoff is at 10 a.m. PT.
Brock Bowers:
The tight end had five catches for 5 8 yards against the Chiefs, including another spectacular leaping catch. The No. 13 overall draft pick has 52 receptions, which is a Raiders’ team record after eight games of any season.
Jackson Powers-Johnson:
The second-round pick from Oregon has been inconsistent and the penalties are piling up. He struggled in the run game against the Chiefs. He spelled center Andre James after he went out with an ankle injury in the fourth quarter. Powers-Johnson has had some good moments, but he is clearly adjusting to the NFL game at the tender age of 21.
DJ Glaze:
The third-round pick is the clear starter at right tackle. He’s been good overall. He did have some struggles against the Chiefs in both the running game and in pass protection.
Decamarion Richardson:
The fourth-round pick played his third straight game after missing the first five games with a hamstring injury. He played one defensive snap against the Chiefs after playing his first nine defensive snaps in Week 7. He played 15 snaps on special teams.
Tommy Eichenberg:
He played one defensive snap and 20 on special teams after being inactive with a hamstring injury for two straight games.
Dylan Laube:
He was inactive for the second straight game. The sixth-round pick from New Hampshire has been active for three games.
Trey Taylor:
The seventh-round pick played 13 snaps on special teams in his third game.
Not on roster
Seventh-round pick, cornerback M.J. Devonshire was cut and is on the practice squad. Taylor may be ready to play soon.
Undrafted free agents:
Linebacker Amari Gainer, defensive tackle Jonah Laulu and safety Thomas Harper. Gainer played 83 percent of the snaps on special teams. Laulu played21 percent of the defensive snaps a week after the defensive tackle played a season-high 49 percent of the snaps on defense. Harper played nine snaps on defense and he played 13 special-teams snaps.
