Raiders sign WR Trey Quinn to a reserve/future contract

January 13, 2021 by Raiders Wire Leave a Comment

At this time of year, adding to the roster can be a little difficult. Teams must way until the new league year to make trades or sign unrestricted free agents. However, players who are already free agents can sign “future” contracts as they look to join a team for all the offseason workouts.

On Tuesday night, the Raiders signed veteran wide receiver Trey Quinn to a reserve/future contract. Quinn was originally a seventh-round pick by the Washington Football Team in the 2018 NFL Draft but he spent the 2020 season on the Jacksonville Jaguars roster.

Quinn was a highly productive receiver in college, catching 114 passes for 1,236 yards and 13 touchdowns during his junior year at SMU. He would ultimately become Mr. Irrelevant in the 2018 NFL Draft as he was the final selection that year.

During his three-year NFL career, Quinn has caught 35 passes for 273 yards and two touchdowns. He also has experience as a punt returner, returning 21 punts for 136 yards.

Quinn’s best role is as a slot receiver who can win in the short to intermediate parts of the field. Entering the offseason, the Raiders really don’t have anyone who can backup Hunter Renfrow. But Quinn can fill that role, even if it is just during practice or in the preseason.

Quinn is clearly a talented player with above-average size and quickness for the slot. He’s certainly not considered a lock to make the roster in 2021, but he is a quality depth signing who could make some noise this offseason during workouts.
