The No. 43 pick out of TCU might be worth backing
If you’re into sports betting and looking for early NFL longshots, we might have a tip for you.
Our friends at DraftKings have posted odds on the NFL Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year awards for the 2021 season, now that the draft is complete.
The Raiders traded up to take Moehrig with the No. 43 overall pick in the second round on Friday night. Many people thought the Raiders could take the TCU product — Moehrig is expected to be Las Vegas’ starting free safety as a rookie — with their first pick.
There was speculation that the reason Moehrig fell in the draft was because of a back injury he recently suffered, but Moehrig has since said he is 100 percent healthy.
The Raiders will give Moehrig a chance to shine in Gus Bradley’s defense, so the potential for big plays will be there. If a safety can make some noise and help a team make a run at the playoffs, he could get some rookie of the year voting momentum.
Dallas Cowboys’ linebacker Micah Parsons, who was the No. 12 pick, has the lowest Defensive Rookie of the Year awards odds at 4-1.
Offensively, only skill position players are on DraftKings’ board so Alabama right tackle Alex Leatherwood, who the Raiders took at No. 17, is off the board.
