Las Vegas reportedly working out veteran LB Mark Barron

The Las Vegas Raiders got a jump on Tuesday’s roster cut-down by making a few moves, most notably, cutting veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas.

Douglas was signed as a free agent this offseason and he was expected to make the team when he was signed. But the Raiders continued to load up at the position in the offseason. Plus, Douglas didn’t perform that well in preseason play.

The Raiders also trimmed punter Corliss Waitman and guard Parker Ehinger from the roster. They did bring back tackle Devery Hamilton. So, Las Vegas needs to trim three more players by Tuesday’s deadline to get the roster down to 80. The initial 53-man roster will be set August 31.

Hamilton signed with the Raiders as an undrafted rookie free agent after playing at both Stanford and Duke, He was cut recently with an injury, but now is healthy.

ESPN reported the Raiders are working out veteran linebacker Mark Barron,

Barron, 31, last played in the NFL in 2019. He was the No. 7 overall pick in the 2012 draft out of Alabama.

It’s not a shock the Raiders are exploring linebackers. Nicholas Morrow may be out a few weeks with a foot injury he suffered last week in a scrimmage against the Rams. Veteran linebackers Nick Kwiatkoski and Darron Lee are dealing with injuries and young linebacker Javin White suffered an knee injury Saturday night in a preseason win over the Rams. It is not known how serious White’s injury is, but he was carted off the field and Raiders’ coach Jon Gruden said the team was concerned about the injury after the game.
