Raiders Release QB Carter Bradley Prior To Training Camp

July 16, 2025 by Raiders Nation

Carter Bradley, Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders have to get better play from under center if they want any hopes of taking a leap in 2025. The front office took a big step in that direction by trading for Geno Smith to be the team’s starter at quarterback, but the franchise also needs depth behind him.

Aidan O’Connell is returning and is expected to back up Smith, while the team also drafted Cam Miller out of North Dakota State in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. And now, going into training camp, those three will be the only signal callers on the Raiders.

According to Bill Heyen of Yahoo Sports, the Raiders have waived quarterback Carter Bradley and now have an open roster spot as camp is set to begin soon:

The Las Vegas Raiders trimmed their quarterback depth chart ahead of training camp.

Carter Bradley is on his way out.

The young quarterback was waived on Monday, leaving an open spot on the Raiders’ 90-man roster.

Bradley is the son of former Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley.

Bradley has yet to appear in an NFL game, going undrafted last season after spending six years in college. After spending four seasons at Toledo, Bradley would transfer to South Alabama, where he threw for 5,995 yards with 47 touchdowns and 19 interceptions in two years.

He spent most of the season on the Raiders’ practice squad, though he did get called up to the active roster at the end of the year and suited up, but never took a snap.

The timing of this is a bit surprising as training camp is right around the corner, but the move opens up a roster spot that the Raiders will be able to use should they want to bring someone else in. At the end of the day, the Raiders simply don’t see Bradley making an impact on the roster and have chosen to move on now, rather than bringing someone to training camp who they knew wouldn’t make the roster.

Tom Brady told Raiders not to sign QB Sam Darnold?

Another quarterback the Raiders could have brought in this offseason was Sam Darnold, who enjoyed a bounce-back 2024 with the Minnesota Vikings. Coincidentally, Darnold would sign with the Seattle Seahawks, replacing Geno Smith, whom the Raiders had traded for. A big reason why they went the route they did was due to minority owner Tom Brady, who reportedly was not in favor of that move.
