Raiders Re-Sign Paul Butler & Place Nick O’Leary On Reserve/Non-Football Injury List

May 29, 2020 by Raiders Nation Leave a Comment

The Las Vegas Raiders announced that they’ve re-signed tight end Paul Butler and placed tight end Nick O’Leary on the reserve/non-football injury list.

Butler was originally signed by the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2018 and spent parts of the 2018 and 2019 seasons with the organization. He has not appeared in a regular-season game for the Raiders, however, spending a majority of both seasons on the practice squad.

He was signed by the Detroit Lions as a Reserve/Future free agent at the conclusion of the 2019 season although later released, paving the way for a return to the Raiders.

The Raiders signed O’Leary as a free agent earlier this offseason. Although it’s unknown what type of injury he is dealing with, it is unlikely he suits up for the team in 2020 due to the depth they already have at the tight end position.

In addition to O’Leary, the Raiders also signed veteran tight end Jason Witten this offseason. He joins a tight end room that already includes Darren Waller, Foster Moreau and Derek Carrier, which likely means that there won’t be much playing time for Butler in 2020.

The Raiders’ offseason has largely been a successful one as they have added a number of talented players to the organization through the draft and free agency. With an influx of young talent, the Raiders should be back in the playoff mix in 2020 and beyond.
