Raiders place TE Nick O'Leary on reserve/non-football injury list

May 28, 2020 by Raiders Wire Leave a Comment

It appears that Nick O’Leary’s time with the Las Vegas Raiders was a short one. After the team signed the veteran tight end earlier this offseason, the Raiders announced on Thursday that O’Leary on the reserve/non-football injury list.

We have re-signed free agent TE Paul Butler.

Leary will not count against the Raiders’ 90-man roster limit and it appears that he is no longer a part of the team’s long-term plans. Often, these are players who are contemplating retirement and/or suffered an injury while working out away from the team.

While it is not known why O’Leary was placed on the reserve list, it is interesting that the team brought back Paul Butler to replace him. With the Raiders already having a ton of talent and depth at the tight end position, it seems unlikely that O’Leary will factor into their plans for the 2020 NFL season.

O’Leary was originally a sixth-round pick by the Buffalo Bills and has started 24 games in his NFL career. He last played for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019, catching nine passes for 72 yards and one touchdown. O’Leary turns 28-years old at the end of August.
