Raiders News: Gabe Jackson Takes Subtle Shot At Las Vegas

April 2, 2021 by Raiders Nation Leave a Comment

Gabe Jackson, Raiders

Guard Gabe Jackson found himself part of the turnover that took place along the Las Vegas Raiders’ offensive line this offseason after being traded to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a fifth-round pick.

There was already plenty of uncertainty regarding the team’s plans for this group following a disappointing showing during the 2020 campaign. The Raiders raised eyebrows by opting to go with a complete facelift by parting ways with Jackson, center Rodney Hudson, and right tackle Trent Brown.

The moves came as a bit of a surprise in Las Vegas, especially for those like Jackson and Hudson that had served as stabilizing factors for this group over the years. It appears it has not taken the former very long to turn the page on the previous chapter in his career.

Jackson was fortunate enough to find himself on a team that is quite familiar with postseason play in the Seahawks. He has since wasted no time in subtly pointing out this stark difference from the Raiders, via John Boyle of the team’s official website.

“All I know is I’m excited to join the 12s and meet my other brothers,” Jackson said from Starkville, Mississippi on a video call with Seattle reporters, adding he’s excited about, “the team, the players that I know are there, the coaching staff, the fan base, the 12s. I remember playing against them and how loud it gets there. They win. I want to be a part of an organization that’s like that.”

Although Jackson’s comments certainly carry an element of bitterness, there is certainly some truth to them. Their last playoff appearance was during the 2016 season when they lost to the Houston Texans. Prior to that, they were in the midst of a major dry spell dating back to the 2002 season.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks missed the playoffs just one time since 2012 and are coming off a Wild Card loss to their divisional rival in the Los Angeles Rams. Jackson is looking forward to being a part of an organization that has made a habit of getting to the postseason.

Fortunately, the Raiders are doing what they can to establish themselves as a bona fide contender following an 8-8 finish during the 2020 campaign. Despite the lingering voids along the offensive line, they made notable additions on both sides of the ball in free agency.

Regardless, it is clear that Jackson is relishing the change of scenery early on.
