Raiders News: Derek Carr Loves Additions Of Pete Carroll, Ashton Jeanty

July 28, 2025 by Raiders Nation

Derek Carr, Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders are once again entering a new era led by new head coach Pete Carroll and GM John Spytek. With Tom Brady taking on a hands-on role as minority owner, this truly could be a new age for the silver and black. The team also traded for quarterback Geno Smith and drafted running back Ashton Jeanty with the sixth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft so the pieces for a revamped offense are in place.

Someone who seems to be a fan is former quarterback Derek Carr, who recently announced his retirement from football. While he finished his career with the New Orleans Saints, Carr spent his first nine NFL seasons with the Raiders, becoming the team’s all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns, and was named to the Pro Bowl four times.

And when it comes to the moves the Raiders made this offseason, in particular the additions of Carroll as head coach and Jeanty in the backfield, Carr is a big fan, via Austin C. Boyd of Yahoo Sports:

“I love Pete Carroll. I’ve always loved him, always admired him from afar,” Carr told Shannon Kelly of Nevada Sports Net. “His guys play super aggressive, super fast on defense. … On offense, you know they’re gonna run the football, obviously with their draft pick, even though he’s a Boise State Bronco, I’ll look past that he’s a Raider now, so we’re family.”

Carr, of course, attended Fresno State, one of Boise State’s biggest rivals, so he has to overcome that, but if Jeanty is as advertised, he should have no problem doing so. Jeanty has all the tools of a generational talent, and Carroll loves to run the ball, so the Raiders should benefit significantly from both coming in, which is what matters most.

Once you’re a member of the Raiders family, you are family forever, and that is why Carr is so excited about what this team could become this season. Even though Carr left the Raiders to end his career, he still views this franchise as family and wants to see Carroll and Jeanty lead this team to success.

Former Raiders QB Derek Carr calls Oakland Coliseum the toughest place to play

The question of which stadium is the toughest to play at in the NFL is often brought up as certain teams have a home field advantage that just can’t be touched. But for former Raiders QB Derek Carr, the Oakland Coliseum was hands down the toughest place to play.
