The biggest story for the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday was that the team finally ended their 10-game losing streak with a 19-14 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. This means that another day in which rookie tight end Brock Bowers changed the NFL history books finally came in a victory.
Bowers was outstanding once again on Sunday, finishing with 11 catches for 99 yards and in doing so, became just the third tight end in NFL history to reach 1,000 yards as a rookie, joining Mike Ditka and Kyle Pitts. Bowers also became the first tight end in NFL history to record 100 receptions in his rookie season.
When asked about the accomplishments after the game however, Bowers deflected the praise towards his teammates and focused more on the Raiders win than any individual stats, via Levi Edwards of Raiders.com:
“I couldn’t do it without all the other guys,” Bowers said. “Aidan was slinging that thing and everyone was making plays so it felt good. … Just coming here and [winning], the vibes are just way better.”
This really shows what Bowers is all about as the win is more important than anything else and he was simply happy to enjoy a victory with his teammates. Aidan O’Connell was once again solid and got him the ball often so Bowers wanted to make sure he got his deserved praise as well.
But Bowers is simply on another level and has been all season long and deserves far more recognition than what he is receiving. That is surely due to the Raiders’ poor record, but what the rookie tight end is doing should not be ignored.
Bowers needs just 10 yards to break Ditka’s all-time rookie record for receiving yards by a tight end and just five catches to surpass Puka Nacua’s rookie record for receptions, regardless of position. Somehow Bowers won’t even win Offensive Rookie of the Year as Washington QB Jayden Daniels is enjoying an outstanding season himself and has his team on the brink of a playoff spot, but enough can’t be said about the year Bowers is having.
Raiders owner Mark Davis celebrated victory in locker room with team
The good vibes were in abundance as the Raiders got their first victory since September over the Jaguars. Some may have lamented the win as it hurt the team’s standing near the top of the 2025 NFL Draft, but those in the locker room couldn’t have cared less, and that included owner Mark Davis.
The Raiders owner was in the locker room with the team clapping it up, talking with players and celebrating their victory. If Davis was disappointed in the Raiders dropping from the second pick to sixth, it wasn’t showing after the game.
