Raiders News: Brock Bowers Breaks Two More Rookie Records

December 31, 2024 by Raiders Nation

Brock Bowers, Raiders

Las Vegas Raiders rookie tight end Brock Bowers continues to make his claim for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year as his rewriting of the all-time record books saw another couple of records fall on Sunday. Bowers finished with seven catches for 77 yards in the Raiders’ 25-10 victory over the New Orleans Saints and, in doing so, broke one of the longest-standing rookie records ever.

Bowers broke Mike Ditka’s 63-year-old record for receiving yards by a rookie tight end, which was set back in 1961. The Raiders star now sits at 1,144 yards, surpassing Ditka’s mark of 1,076, though it should be noted that Ditka set that record during a 14-game season.

But that wasn’t the only record that fell on Sunday, as Bowers also surpassed Puka Nacua’s rookie record for receptions with 108. Just last year, Nacua had 105 receptions in his first season with the Los Angeles Rams, but that has now fallen thanks to the exploits of the Raiders’ young star tight end. And after the game, Bowers was pretty humble in reflecting on his accomplishments, via ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez:

“I mean, it’s pretty awesome,” said Bowers, who has 108 catches for 1,144 yards and 4 touchdowns with the season finale at home against the playoff-bound Los Angeles Chargers (10-6) next week.

“It’s always been a childhood goal to play in the NFL, obviously, and then to come in here and be able to catch as many balls as I did and get as many yards as I did … it’s pretty shocking to me, I guess. It’s pretty cool.”

For a tight end to hold the rookie record for receptions is genuinely unbelievable and shows just how impressive Bowers has been this season. Add in the fact that he has put up these kinds of numbers with an unideal situation at quarterback, and it makes what Bowers is doing even more impressive. It should get the Raiders even more excited about what his future holds.

Bowers also broke a Raiders all-time record as he surpassed Darren Waller for most receptions in a single season by any player. And with one more game to go, Bowers has the opportunity to push those records out even further.

Raiders’ Maxx Crosby reiterates desire to win now following Myles Garrett comments

Brock Bowers is a cornerstone of this Raiders team on the offensive end, and without a doubt, the defensive leader of this team is Maxx Crosby. But the star’s defensive end has made it clear he wants to win and have postseason success. Following the comments of Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett, Crosby reiterated that desire again.

Crosby spoke of all the sacrifices he has made and what he puts his body through while lamenting all of the inconsistency that has plagued the Raiders franchise. Crosby added that, like Garrett, he plans on having conversations with the front office this offseason to get an idea of the plan for the future.
