The 2025 season should be an exciting one for the Las Vegas Raiders, as they came away with arguably the most exciting player in the 2025 NFL Draft in Ashton Jeanty.
Jeanty was the consensus No. 1 running back in the draft because of his size, speed, elusiveness, power and ability to hit the home run play. Head coach Pete Carroll likes to establish the run, and he’ll have the perfect player in Jeanty to filter the offense through.
There is a lot of optimism that Jeanty can elevate the Raiders’ offense, as they were missing a true game-breaking talent out of the backfield. As the league saw with the Philadelphia Eagles, having a dominant running back still matters, and Jeanty has all the tools and talent required to fill the role.
As for his personal goals for his rookie season, Jeanty set some high ones even for a player of his caliber, via Jordan Giorgio of CBS Sports:
“I’m hoping for 1,500 rushing [yards], and we’ll say like 10–20 touchdowns,”
Jeanty doesn’t lack confidence, as there have only been seven other rookies to eclipse the 1,500 rushing yards mark. That level of production is normally reserved for the best running backs in the league, though it certainly wouldn’t be wise to bet against someone like Jeanty, who has the sort of ceiling.
Jeanty is coming off a historic season at Boise State when he rushed for 2,601 yards, which was the second-most in NCAA history. It cemented him as easily the best running back in the draft and someone that a team like the Raiders can build an offense around.
Carroll has several strong pieces in Geno Smith, Brock Bowers and Jeanty to work with offensively and that should be enough to get Las Vegas a couple more wins compared to this past year. The organization is in desperate need of some exciting play on the field, so all eyes will be on Jeanty, who’ll look to meet those lofty expectations.
Ashton Jeanty paid Daniel Carlson huge sum for No. 2 jersey
Ashton Jeanty was arguably the most exciting player in college football last season, as he had a highlight play on nearly every drive, and he was recognized most notably by his No. 2 jersey. Getting drafted to the Las Vegas Raiders meant that Jeanty wouldn’t be able to get his number so easily, as it already belonged to Daniel Carlson.
Fortunately, Jeanty was able to buy the No. 2 from Carlson in exchange for a huge sum.
