CBS Sports has the Raiders making a bold move
As I’ve said before, I don’t pass along every mock draft I see because there are just so many of them and it becomes numbing.
But I have no problem digging into mock drafts when an intriguing scenario emerges and that is the case with Jonathan Jones’ latest mock for CBS Sports. A noted NFL reporter, Jones has an eye-opening scenario involving the Las Vegas Raiders.
In Jones’ mock, he has the Raiders trading up from No. 17 to No. 14 with the Minnesota Vikings to take South Carolina cornerback Jaycee Horn. In the deal, the Raiders also send No. 79 in the third round to the Vikings. That is the pick that the Raiders got in the Rodney Hudson trade with the Arizona Cardinals last month.
In total, Las Vegas would essentially be sending No. 17, Hudson and the seventh-round pick that went with him to the Cardinals for the chance to take Horn at No. 14.
That would be quite a haul.
Horn, however, is considered by many as the premier cornerback in the draft so it may be a stretch to see him getting past the Los Angeles Chargers at No. 13.
If the Raiders were to make this deal, it would be one of the top stories of the draft because of the price tag it takes to move up — and due to the fact that they are getting a cornerback in the first round for the second year in a row and for the third time since 2017.
a TOTAL FAILURE of player evaluation
on their secondary the last 5 yrs Raiders used:
4 first round picks (most in NFL)
6 picks in the first 2 rds (most)
10 picks in the first 4 rds (most)
yet pass D ranked
and secondary is a top need again https://t.co/DylcDgpUo1

Therefore, if the Raiders do make a move up for Horn, it would be yet another investment at the position. But if he’s a unit-changing pick, it may be worth it.
What are your thoughts on this trade-up scenario. Is it worth it?
