Raiders Legend Tim Brown Reveals What Rule He Would Bring From Arena League To The NFL

June 26, 2025 by Raiders Nation

Tim Brown, Raiders

Las Vegas Raiders legend Tim Brown is one of the greatest wide receivers in the history of the NFL. The Hall of Famer ranks seventh all-time in receptions and receiving yards and 11th all-time in receiving touchdowns and is one of the faces most synonymous with this Raiders’ franchise.

Brown has kept busy in his post-playing career with one of the main things he’s been involved in being Arena Football. He was the co-owner and general manager of the Texas Revolution of the Champions Indoor Football League and is now the League Chairman and Commissioner of The Arena League.

Arena football is a distinctly different game with numerous rules that differ from those of the NFL. And when asked what rule he would bring to the NFL from the Arena League, Brown had an answer that would likely not sit well with a group of NFL players, via Ryan Gaydos of Fox News:

“Getting rid of kickers,” Brown told Adams. “We have no kicking in our league. Getting rid of kickers. I owned an (arena football team) years ago and kicking was the worst part of the game. Obviously, the poles were narrow, and it made it very difficult for those guys.

“It really slowed the game down. It just wasn’t what you want to see – you’re talking about fast-paced games. Now we have a throw-off. These guys literally throw the ball and it’s the best thing ever. I know it would never happen. I got a lot of friends who were kickers in the league. But it works. It makes for a very fun-paced, fast-paced, fun game and I think it’s a beautiful thing.”

As Brown said, this is something that would never happen, and he even has several friends who were NFL kickers, but the Raiders legend feels that removing the kicking element from the NFL would make for a more fun and fast-paced game.

That could very well be the case, but special teams has become such an essential and ingrained element of football that the removal of it is simply not feasible.

Jakobi Meyers wants to remain with the Raiders long-term

As far as the current crop of Raiders wide receivers goes, the top option is clearly Jakobi Meyers, who remains one of the most underrated players at his position in the entire NFL. Meyers is entering the final year of his contract, but he made it clear that he hopes to remain with the franchise.

Meyers said that he wants to stay with the Raiders for sure, though he added that he can’t really go into any details about any potential extension talks. Regardless, Meyers is a key piece of this Raiders offense, and keeping him around would be good for this team as a whole.
