Raiders CB Jack Jones expected to see increased role in Week 14

December 9, 2023 by Raiders Wire

After their Week 12 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, the Las Vegas Raiders released veteran cornerback Marcus Peters. His play had dropped off in the second half of the season and his lack of interest in tackling was one of the main reasons that he was benched.

But another reason why the Raiders decided to move on from Peters was due to their youth at cornerback. Las Vegas is in evaluation mode and they are trying to find out which young players could be cornerstones for their defense moving forward.

One of those players is Jack Jones, who the team signed earlier during the season from the Patriots. Jones played 40 snaps against the Chiefs and his role is only expected to grow moving forward.

Jones is one of several young cornerbacks who will be tasked with slowing down Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison in Week 14. Here is what ESPN had to say about that matchup going into Sunday:

In recent cornerback news, the Raiders have waived Marcus Peters, signed Jack Jones and designated Brandon Facyson, who suffered a shin injury in training camp, to return from IR.

The Raiders’ reimagined CB room and their No. 13-ranked pass defense will be tested mightily by the return of Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson, the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year who is on track to play for the first time since Oct. 8 because of a hamstring issue.

Between Jones, Jakorian Bennett, and Nate Hobbs, the Raiders have one of the youngest cornerback rooms in the NFL. But they need to show that they can hang with some of the top passing offenses in the NFL. Sunday will be a great test for Jones and company.
