The Las Vegas Raiders had the worst rushing attack in the NFL last season, but they are primed to take a leap in 2025. The team selected Heisman Trophy runner-up Ashton Jeanty with the sixth overall pick in the NFL Draft, and he is slated to slot in as the team’s starting running back immediately.
Jeanty was far and away the best running back in college football last year with the Boise State Broncos, nearly breaking Barry Sanders’ college football record for rushing yards in a single season. Jeanty should provide a big boost for what looks to be a much-improved Raiders’ offense, and he is now officially locked in.
According to ESPN’s Ryan McFadden, the Raiders and Jeanty have agreed to a fully guaranteed four-year deal worth nearly $36 million:
Raiders RB and No. 6 overall pick Ashton Jeanty has signed his fully-guaranteed, four-year $35,895,812 rookie deal that includes a $22,746,044 signing bonus, per his agents @HenryOrgann and @Agent_Big_Al of @DisruptiveSports. pic.twitter.com/oeecCtIt0I

Jeanty was considered by many to be one of the best prospects in this draft period, and with good reason. Jeanty averaged seven yards per carry, nearly double the Raiders’ average, and rushed for 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns for the Broncos. He was a unanimous All-American and won the Maxwell and Doak Walker Awards in 2024.
With last year’s first-round pick, Brock Bowers, already establishing himself as one of the best tight ends in the NFL, Jeanty joins him as the two cornerstones of the Raiders’ offensive attack. Along with new quarterback Geno Smith, reliable receiver Jakobi Meyers and what should be an improved offensive line, not to mention a new head coach in Pete Carroll, the Raiders have the pieces in place to make a real leap in 2025.
Jeanty was already participating in the Raiders’ offseason program, but now that his contract situation is handled, he can focus solely on being the gamechanger that the franchise envisioned when they drafted him. Teams have shied away from drafting running backs this high recently, but Jeanty figures to be an exception to that rule.
Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty ranks top-5 in rookie jersey sales
The drafting of Ashton Jeanty has also sparked some serious excitement amongst the Raiders’ faithful as the back ranks in the top-5 in jersey sales amongst all rookies.
Jeanty ranks fourth overall, trailing only top pick Cam Ward of the Tennessee Titans, second pick Travis Hunter of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Shedeur Sanders of the Cleveland Browns.
