Raiders Activate Daniel Carlson From Reserve/COVID-19 List, Reach 85-Player Roster Limit

The first preseason game for the Las Vegas Raiders is in the books, and they looked good in their 20-7 victory over the Seattle Seahawks.

While there are not too many takeaways from a game where the Raiders sat nearly all their starters, fans can still be encouraged with how they looked and the direction the franchise seems to be heading in. Even though Las Vegas has a solid squad, they will be in a battle to earn a playoff spot as the AFC is home to several formidable teams.

Like the rest of the league, the Raiders came into the preseason with a 90-man roster, but the deadline to cut it down to 85 was Tuesday, and the team announced which players were cut or released. Las Vegas also announced they activated kicker Daniel Carlson from the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

The Raiders parted ways with quarterback Case Cookus, kicker Dominik Eberle, long snapper Liam McCullough, running back Bo Scarbrough, and wide receiver Caleb Scott. They also decided to release cornerback De’Vante Bausby and defensive tackle Ethan Westbrooks.

With Carlson back and healthy, Eberle was an easy decision to let go. As for the offensive positions, the Raiders are set at each spot and boast plenty of depth to get them through the regular season.

Teams will continue evaluating their current rosters through the upcoming preseason games and make tough decisions along the way as they work to get to the 53-player limit. Their final roster seems fairly clear in the Raiders’ case, but it would not be surprising to see a less-heralded player or two make an impression in the following weeks and earn a spot. It remains to be seen who that is, but it will definitely be something to watch for in the two preseason games left.
