New York Yankees minor league manager Rachel Balkovec experienced a terrifying situation earlier this week.
The 34-year-old was hit straight in the eye by a batted ball during batting practice. Somehow, she didn’t suffer a serious injury.
Balkovec has been recovering at home ever since. And on Thursday night she provided an update on her situation.
“Well I *DID* have several modeling contracts line up, but this put a wrench in those plans ;),” she said.
“Thanks for all of the messages- Just feeling extremely lucky, and also like I’ll never throw side flips again for the rest of eternity.
“This is why you have to life [live] your life in a way that you’re okay leaving it at any moment. Not a minute to waste being, thinking or playing small.”
You can find her recovery update and accompanying picture below. She has a pretty nasty bruise on and surrounding her left eye.

Ouch. Rachel Balkovec is one tough minor league manager. We wish her well in her recovery.
Balkovec is already an icon in the world of sports. She’s baseball’s first-ever female manager. Her already illustrious story added a new chapter after getting struck in the face by a batted ball.
“All things considered, I feel very fortunate,” Balkovec said in a statement about the incident, via NYPost.com. “The doctors have asked me to be smart about limiting my activities over the next several days and I plan on following their guidance. As much as I already miss being around the players and staff, I do not expect this affecting my role and responsibilities for the regular season.”
