Rachel Balkovec’s spring debut is going to be delayed after she was hit by a ball.
Balkovec is recovering after she was hit by a baseball in the face during a workout on Tuesday afternoon. She’s being advised to rest for five-to-seven days.
She’s set to be the first woman manager in affiliated professional baseball this season, managing the New York Yankees’ single-A team.
Rachel Balkovec was struck in the face by a batted ball yesterday, Yankees announce. She has been advised to rest for 5-7 days and is doing so at home. She does not expect the injury to affect her duties during the Minor League regular season.

Per MLB.com, she was assisting in a soft toss at the Yankees’ player development complex when a batter mishit the ball.
She has not been diagnosed with a concussion, but she is experiencing swelling near one of her eyes.
The MLB world is hoping that Balkovec gets better as soon as possible.

Balkovec released a statement after this happened and confirmed that she doesn’t expect this injury to affect her role during the season.
“As much as I already miss being around the players and staff, I do not anticipate this affecting my role and responsibilities for the regular season,” Balkovec said.
