Only one or two games remain in the Coach K era at Duke. Following the Final Four, the torch will officially be passed to assistant coach and former Blue Devils star Jon Scheyer.
Scheyer, who won a national championship playing for Coach K at Duke, will become the program’s next head coach.
The 34-year-old assistant coach was named the head coach in waiting following Coach K’s retirement announcement last spring.
Scheyer, who played at Duke from 2006-10, is taking in the moment at the Final Four in New Orleans.

Jon is married to Marcelle Provencial. The happy couple has been married since 2017. They have a girl named Noa, born in January 2018 and a boy named Jett, born in August 2019. A third child is reportedly on the way.
“Happy Mother’s Day to the two most important women in my life. I’m amazed every day by the love, care, attention you show our kids. Beyond thankful for the both of these women. Happy Mother’s Day to all Moms out there!” Jon wrote last May.
Scheyer will certainly have plenty of family and friends on hand for the Final Four on Saturday night. And while this year is all about Coach K, it will be all about Scheyer moving forward.
Tipoff between Duke and UNC is set for 8:49 p.m. E.T.
