Paul Finebaum suggested that Texas A&M is emerging as a new antagonist in college football.
When interviewing Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher on “The Paul Finebaum Show,” the host asked how he’s handling the “villain” role due to his recruiting acumen.
“I don’t know if I’m the villain, hero, whatever it is,” Fisher said. “I don’t have social media, so that’s up to them. It doesn’t matter to me. We’re just trying to get the players in here we need to get, and our staff’s doing a great job of recruiting and hopefully putting together a great team.”
According to 247Sports, the Aggies boast this year’s premier recruiting crop featuring eight five-star prospects. That arrival of premium talent will elevate expectations for a program that went 8-4 in 2021 after winning the Rose Bowl the previous year.
However, the “villain” label might be premature.
Despite defeating Alabama last year, Texas A&M has a ways to go before leapfrogging the Crimson Tide in the SEC. As a perennial College Football Playoff participant, Nick Saban’s squad remains the “big bad” everyone else is trying to dethrone.
Hopes are nevertheless running high in College Station. Do the Aggies have what it takes to become a powerhouse fans love to hate?
