Mac Jones hasn’t been on the New England Patriots very long, but he’s already making a strong impression on his teammates.
During this Tuesday’s media session, Patriots special teams ace Matthew Slater shared his thoughts on the team’s 2021 draft class. It’s very apparent that he likes Jones’ intangibles off the field.
“He’s a great young man. Character really counts when you talk about what we do off the football field, the way we carry ourselves, the way we approach our profession, the way we do things in the community,” Slater said. “That translates to the football field. I think Mac is a fine young man.”
Slater also said that Jones’ character is so respectable that his family should be very proud of him.
“His family should be proud of the way they raised him, the way he carries himself and the way he commands respect of even guys like myself. He’s earned that respect with the way he’s gone about his craft.”

The fact that Jones is already receiving praise from veterans like Slater is a great sign that he can mature into a leader for New England.
Jones will have the chance to show what he can do on the practice field this week since Cam Newton is out until Thursday. If he performs well, he could potentially win the starting job for Week 1.
