An injury kept Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love from finishing his reps in the team’s preseason loss to the Houston Texans over the weekend. But a new report on Monday indicates what the team’s “sense” is on Love’s current progress.
On Monday’s edition of FMIA, NFL insider Peter King reported that Love “hasn’t wowed the team” yet. While he said that Aaron Rodgers had similar troubles, the “sense” he’s getting is that the Packers don’t believe Love is ready for prime time as the starter.
“Jordan Love, the pivot-point first-round pick of all the discontent, hasn’t wowed the team,” King wrote. “Good days, shaky days. But I’d be cautious about saying the 26th pick in the 2020 draft is in trouble… Love’s decision-making must improve. But some quarterbacks take more nurturing than others. One of the biggest problems in football today is impatience with young quarterbacks, and I got the sense the Packers think Love’s not ready for prime time yet.”
That’s a pretty rough assessment of Love, especially considering that the Packers were seemingly close to a messy divorce with Rodgers until a few weeks ago. Given that Rodgers may be only a year or two away from separating from Rodgers altogether, they’re running out of time to develop Love.

Taking Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft was one of the most controversial draft day decisions in recent memory. But it proved to be a bit of a non-factor as Aaron Rodgers had a career year en route to MVP honors and a trip to the NFC Championship Game.
However, after losing that game to the Buccaneers, Rodgers began to openly question his future with the team. Love was declared as the next man up in the months that followed, taking all first-team reps before training camp.
If Love still isn’t ready after two years in development, the Packers will have to cross their fingers that Rodgers doesn’t get hurt this year.
Will Jordan Love be ready to start for the Packers this coming year?
