Shortly after suffering a big blow to their front seven, the Green Bay Packers fortified their defensive line by signing Jarran Reed.
Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Packers are adding the defensive tackle hours after the Minnesota Vikings poached star linebacker Za’Darius Smith.
The #Packers are signing DT Jarran Reed, per source. He was there on a visit today.

The 29-year-old expressed excitement to join Green Bay on Twitter.

Reed, a former college standout for Nick Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide, was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks with the 49th pick in 2016. He tallied 194 tackles and 22 sacks over five seasons before signing with the Kansas City Chiefs.
He started all 17 games for Kansas City last year and recorded 12 quarterback hits. Yet the Chiefs allowed 4.8 yards per run and finished 21st in rushing defense for the second straight season.
After the Cincinnati Bengals eliminated Kansas City in the AFC Championship Game, Reed made a reflective Twitter post looking to his “next chapter” that read as a farewell. However, he tried to walk back the message later that evening.
Thank you Kansas city my time at arrowhead was amazing playing for coach Reid was a dream made some great friends on to the next chapter

Green Bay also struggled to stymie the run last season, permitting 4.7 yards per carry.
Reed is a solid veteran addition to the Packers’ defense, but they still have plenty of work to build a supporting cast capable of guiding Aaron Rodgers to the Super Bowl.
