Two of the most important players on Ohio State‘s offense—wide receiver Garrett Wilson and offensive lineman Thayer Munford—were sidelined during practice on Thursday. Luckily, according to offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson, it isn’t a major cause for concern.
According to various Ohio State beat writers, Wilson was seen working out with two injured players: Kamryn Babb and Mitchell Melton. It was the first time he’s been seen away from the main team practice this summer, per Nathan Baird. Munford was also out, with junior Matthew Jones taking his spot at left guard.
Wilson and Munford are two of the most established stars for the Buckeyes. With the team set to break in a new quarterback after the departure of Justin Fields, Ryan Day and his staff will want to give whichever young signal caller wins the job all the help he can get at receiver and up front.
After Friday’s practice, Kevin Wilson said that Garrett Wilson was just having his “workload managed.” Munford is dealing with a minor issue, but “is also fine,” the OC shared, per Dan Hope.
Kevin Wilson said today that Garrett Wilson is healthy, Ohio State just wanted to manage his workload yesterday. He said Thayer Munford has been limited for the past couple of days, but is also fine. Tyreke Smith and Jerron Cage were also seen in uniform leaving practice today.

Garrett Wilson is one of Ohio State’s two dynamic veteran receivers, along with Chris Olave. They are expected to be one of the most dangerous combinations in college football this fall.
During the shortened 2020 season, he caught 43 passes for 723 yards and six touchdowns. He has 11 scores through two seasons for the Buckeyes.
Thayer Munford was a First Team All-Big Ten selection in 2020, his third season finishing with All-Big Ten accolades. He is a preseason Walter Camp First-Team All-American entering the 2021 season.
While it is never a great sign when guys are banged up, it sounds like Ohio State fans don’t have a ton to worry about in either of these instances.
