Earlier this week, tennis star Nick Kyrgios made headlines for his behavior during a match.
Of course, that’s not exactly news. The tennis bad boy has a history of verbally abusing almost everyone on the court when he plays.
During Tuesday’s match, he racked up another hefty set of fines. “Nick Kyrgios fined $35,000 by the ATP for four separate offenses during his Miami Open fourth-round match on Tuesday,” tennis reporter Stuart Fraser said.
Some fans think there needs to be a harsher penalty for Kyrgios because the fines don’t seem to be doing anything.
“Can’t Nick Kyrgios be suspended for a year or something? Absolutely sick of his antics on court and ATP just fining him after every other match,” one fan said.

“This doesn’t do s***. Rather than fines, you need to slap something harder. Like a suspension for a few weeks. No, that does not mean a probation period. That’s also useless,” said another fan.

“Weak. This will not deter him even a little bit. The governing bodies of tennis have created a culture within the sport where weak punishments for disgraceful behaviour just enable unstable players to take their anger out on officials or other people around them,” said another fan.

Clearly fining Kyrgios hasn’t done the trick just yet. Perhaps tennis federations should take a difference approach moving forward.
