After losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars with Carson Wentz at the helm, the Indianapolis Colts appear to have some soul-searching at quarterback ahead of them. The team’s general manager certainly seems to think so.
In a recent radio interview, Colts general manager Chris Ballard would not commit to keeping Wentz as their starter next year. He defended the decision to make the controversial trade last year, but wouldn’t say whether Wentz would even return next season.
“At the time, we felt it was the right decision…” Ballard said. “I’m not going to make a comment on who is going to be here next year and who is not.”
Fans on Twitter had no problem voicing their beliefs (and hopes) that this means Wentz is gone this offseason. Eagles fans, meanwhile, are doing victory laps for “winning” the big trade.

The Indianapolis Colts traded a conditional first-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for Carson Wentz during the 2021 offseason. He wound up going 9-8 as a starter, throwing for 3,563 yards and 27 touchdowns with seven interceptions.
While those numbers were good, a strong argument can be made that the hard work was done by star running back Jonathan Taylor. Taylor had an incredible seasons season, leading the NFL in all major rushing categories.
We could see the Colts wind up bringing competition to Wentz in training camp rather than naming him the outright starter.
Then again, Wentz and Colts head coach Frank Reich are pretty close. This could all wind up with no changes whatsoever.
But it’s clear that the team is not happy with how Wentz’s first season turned out.
