The inevitable has finally become official. Trevor Lawrence is the Week 1 starter for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
After being listed as quarterback equals with incumbent QB1 Gardner Minshew, the No. 1 overall pick was finally given the edge ahead of the Jags’ third and final preseason matchup this weekend.
Head coach Urban Meyer announced the decision during a press conference on Wednesday morning.
“Trevor’s going to be the starter Week 1. He’ll be the starter this week as well,” Meyer said.

Coming out of Clemson as one of the highest ranked quarterback prospects of all-time, Lawrence is expected to have an immediate and major impact on the franchise during his rookie season.
With that being said, not too many people were surprised by this QB1 decision.
The competition is over.

Through Monday’s preseason matchup against the New Orleans Saints, Lawrence went 14/23 for 113 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions.
Minshew, now the Jags’ backup, went 13/21 for 149 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception. Third-string veteran C.J. Beathard posted the most impressive stat line, logging 121 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions.
While Lawrence’s stat line may not have been overly impressive, it was enough for Meyer to officially give him the go-ahead as QB1.
Lawrence will take starting reps for the Jaguars in the team’s third and final preseason matchup against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday afternoon.
Then, it’s time to turn the focus towards his first regular season start against the Houston Texans.
