NFL World Reacts To Thursday’s Ryan Tannehill News

August 26, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Ryan Tannehill looks on as the Titans warm-up.

The Tennessee Titans started to grow concerned about a potential “cluster” of COVID-19 cases after head coach Mike Vrabel turned a positive test over the weekend. On Thursday, the team learned that it will be without starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill for the next few days.

Titans general manager Jon Robinson shared that Tannehill will head to the Reserve/COVID-19 list, making him the fifth player to do so since Vrabel tested positive for the virus. Robinson did reveal that the 33-year-old quarterback is feeling “OK.”

According to the Titans, Tannehill already received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. Based on the league’s health and safety protocols, that means he must’ve had a positive test that landed him on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

Tannehill now miss anywhere from 5-10 days and will be able to return once he has two negative tests at least 24 hours apart.

Thankfully, it sounds like Tannehill is doing just fine and should easily be back before the start of the regular season. However, his positive test reveals the stark reality of how COVID-19 will continue to affect the upcoming 2021 campaign.

Although the “cluster” that the Titans are dealing with is less severe than last season’s outbreak, fans and media members have started to grow worried about what this might mean for the year ahead.

#Titans GM Jon Robinson said Ryan Tannehill is vaccinated, which means he can only be forced to isolate because of symptoms or a positive test (not close contact alone). Vaccinated individuals who test positive can return with two negative tests 24 hours apart, no minimum wait.

The #Titans are 97% vaccinated.

But they did place QB Ryan Tannehill and LB/DE Harold Landry on the COVID-19 list today.

Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who is double vaccinated, tested positive for covid and is now out a substantial number of days. The NFL covid policy was predicated on breakthrough cases not existing after vaccination. It’s broken. Huge mess for the season coming.

So Julio Jones returns just in time for Ryan Tannehill to not be there to develop chemistry… not great #Titans

Robinson revealed that the Titans are almost completely fully vaccinated (around 97-98 percent), which spells even more concern for what could happen to other teams that are far from those rates. Tennessee is reportedly testing everyone within the organization as a result of the ongoing situation.

Obviously, health comes first and football comes second in 2021. Hopefully, the members of the Titans organization that have tested positive are able to recover quickly, and fully, before the regular season starts up.

Stay tuned for updates on Tannehill’s status and the developing situation in Tennessee as more information becomes available.
