NFL World Reacts To The Patriots, Ravens Trade

August 26, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

The Patriots and Baltimore Ravens struck a trade deal on Thursday that landed New England a talented rookie defensive back.

The Patriots have reportedly acquired rookie cornerback Shaun Wade from the Ravens. It’s a pretty significant development considering how well Wade has played this preseason.

Wade has already increased his trade value with a strong preseason showing in which he’s allowed a 0.0 passer rating when targeted. He also has one interception. New England sees the potential and wants to take advantage of Baltimore’s overloaded depth in the secondary. The Ravens don’t have much room in their defensive backs room anyways. It looks like a trade is on the very of getting finalized.

“The #Ravens are close on a trade of fifth-round pick CB Shaun Wade, the former Ohio State standout, to the #Patriots, sources,” Ian Rapoport reported on Twitter. “A high-ceiling player likely added to New England’s secondary.”

Here’s what the Ravens are getting in return.

For Wade, the Ravens are getting from the Patriots a 7th-round pick in 2022 and a 5th-round pick in 2023.

So what do NFL fans think about the Ravens-Patriots trade? Let’s just say they’re not surprised the Patriots are involved. They have a knack for striking trade deals that always seem to favor their side.

“Shaun Wade will be a bit of a project for the Patriots,” one fan said. “He’s got some solid potential though and the Patriots needed some corner depth.”

Ravens fans don’t appear to be worried, though. Shaun Wade was running fifth or sixth on the Ravens’ depth chart.

“Shaun Wade has been probably the sixth best slot option this camp including Humphrey,” another said. “If you’re panicking over a rookie 5th rounder… you’re footballing wrong.”

Take a look at how others are reacting to Thursday’s surprising trade.

Shaun Wade is gonna be so god damn good as a slot corner. Bill Belichick does it again. https://t.co/aM9FKOGikY

Ravens GM Eric DeCosta, head coach John Harbaugh and DC Wink Martindale met with Shaun Wade on the field after practice to apprise him of the trade talks. Wade has struggled at times this camp, but it was more a matter of what other DBs have done than what he didn’t do.

I too am disappointed that Shaun Wade didn’t last in Baltimore, but that secondary is still extremely talented regardless 🤷‍♂️

Can’t wait to see Shaun Wade thrive in New England and get a massive second contract.

Will the Shaun Wade addition pay off for the Patriots as soon as this season? We’ll find out in a few months.
