NFL World Reacts To The Bears’ Quarterback News

August 16, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Justin Fields throws a pass during Bears training camp.

Justin Fields’ training camp and preseason performance has fans pushing for the rookie quarterback to be the team’s Week 1 starter.

However, the Bears have continued to say that veteran quarterback Andy Dalton will be the team’s starting quarterback to open the season.

Bears head coach Matt Nagy confirmed on Monday morning that Dalton is still the QB1.

The plan is still for Andy Dalton to be the Week 1 starter, Matt Nagy said. Justin Fields is the 2.

However, Nagy admitted that Fields will likely get more reps with the first-teamers moving forward. He said it will be part of the evaluation process.

“It can be good to see what he does vs. the first-team defense,” Nagy told reporters on Monday morning.

Bears coach Matt Nagy indicates that QB Justin Fields will get more time with WR Allen Robinson and other starters and also against the No. 1 defense. He called it part of the “evaluation process” and part of their plan.

The NFL world isn’t really buying that, though. Many believe that Fields is going to take over for Dalton, sooner than later.

Fields played well in his preseason debut, scoring two touchdowns and passing for more than 100 yards, while adding some on the ground.

Still, it’s only the preseason, and defenses don’t really scheme for a backup quarterback heading into those games. The kind of defenses Fields faces in the regular season will understandably be much tougher.

The future appears to be bright for Chicago moving forward, though. However, the future might not get here as soon as some fans wish it would.
