The San Francisco 49ers’ situation at the quarterback position might be changing heading into the end of the season.
While fans are pushing for rookie Trey Lance to get more playing time, the door might be opening up, with starter Jimmy Garoppolo now dealing with an injury.
According to multiple reports, Jimmy G. is dealing with an injury in his thumb.
“49ers’ QB Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a right thumb UCL tear along with a fracture, per source,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday.

Garoppolo did not practice on Monday. Lance will get the start this weekend if Garoppolo is unable to give it a go.
Fans are anxious to see the rookie quarterback get more playing time.
“He’s not a good QB. Niners were wasting their time with him. They should try and land Aaron Rodgers in the off-season. Let their rookie QB spend 2 years learning under Rodgers,” one fan tweeted.
“It’s time,” another fan added.

The 49ers feel pretty good about Lance moving forward, too.
“This last month of Trey has been his been consecutive four weeks of practice since we’ve had him. He’s had a number of good days and he’s had some bad days, like most guys do, but as far as his consistency, I feel this last month has been his best,” head coach Kyle Shanahan said.
