Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray made his 2021 preseason debut on Friday night, receiving limited snaps against the Kansas City Chiefs. Although it was technically a meaningless game, there are plenty of people concerned about his performance.
Murray completed just 1-of-4 pass attempts for two yards. He also had one carry for eight yards. Overall, that’s a really flat performance from one of the most dangerous quarterbacks in the NFL.
One of the knocks on Murray last night was that he just didn’t have a lot of energy. That’s something FS1’s Skip Bayless addressed on Friday night.
“Kyler Murray said he didn’t really want to play tonight – and that’s how he looked … off and uninspired,” Bayless tweeted. “Mahomes didn’t look much better. But this is a big year for Kyler, a leap year. He has the weapons. Now he needs the results. I believe he’ll achieve them. He’d better.”

A major area of concern for Murray heading into this offseason was Arizona’s inability to convert on third down. While it’d be unfair to overreact to last night’s small sample size, it seems like there’s still some work that needs to be done in that department.
Kyler Murray had MAJOR issues on 3rd down last year:
1st down: 8.2 YPA (13th)
other downs: 6.4 YPA (28th)
3rd down only? 6.1 YPA (38th)in his only preseason action so far this season (tonight) Murray is 0/4 on third downs, with 4 incompletions

Another issue that NFL fans pointed out on Friday night was Murray’s inability to throw the ball away.

The Cardinals have not made a decision as to whether Murray will play in the team’s preseason finale.
If Murray doesn’t play next weekend against the Saints, NFL fans will have to wait until Sept. 12 to see him in action.
