It seems that Dwayne Haskins‘ post-practice comments on how things have been with the Steelers this preseason have earned some attention.
Haskins, the former Washington Football Team first-round pick, was named the starter for Pittsburgh’s preseason finale earlier today. It will be his first start since Week 16 of last season.
This afternoon, Haskins said he’s been enjoying his time with the Steelers because of the way head coach Mike Tomlin has prepared him.
“I think Coach Tomlin does a great job as far as giving you a scouting report of who you’re playing that week,” Haskins said, via Josh Rowntree of 93.7 The Fan. “I’ve never really had that before.”
Haskins went on to say that Tomlin keys in on opposing coaches and their tendencies, and presents players with that info early in the week. After reading these quotes, analysts and fans were left wondering what happened in Washington.
What the hell was going on in Washington and Columbus?? https://t.co/8v4q3Q6QJZ

Now, maybe Jon Gruden, Haskins’ head coach as a rookie, did shortchange him some when it came to scouting reports. It has been well-documented that Gruden did not want to pick Haskins but was overruled by WFT owner Dan Snyder.
Still, it seems unlikely that Gruden and Ron Rivera, Washington’s head coach last year, failed to provide any pertinent advance information on opponents.
Perhaps Tomlin does it in a way that is more appealing to Haskins, or maybe the third-year QB realizes he needs to pay more attention to the scouting report in general after flaming out in Washington.
