During this past Monday night’s game between the Dolphins and Saints, ESPN released a wild stat about Notre Dame quarterbacks in the NFL.
Coming into Week 16 of the 2021 season, Notre Dame quarterbacks lost 23 straight starts in the NFL. That streak was extended to 24 games on Monday night, as Ian Book struggled mightily in his first start for the Saints.
Book completed 12-of-20 pass attempts for 135 yards. He also had two interceptions, with one being returned for a touchdown.
Unsurprisingly, the NFL world had plenty of things to say last night about Notre Dame quarterbacks struggling at the pro level.
“Brian Kelly, QB guru,” Justin Melo of The Draft Network sarcastically tweeted.

Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic, tweeted “Is this really true?”

“This stat is particularly impressive because DeShone Kizer was a starter for an entire NFL season,” Rodger Sherman of The Ringer said.

“Brady Quinn is to ND QB starts in the NFL what Andy Roddick is to US Men winning tennis majors,” Todd Fuhrman said.

According to ESPN, the last win by a Notre Dame quarterback occurred roughly nine years ago. Brady Quinn led the Chiefs to a 27-21 victory over the Panthers in Week 13 of the 2012 season.
This streak will eventually come to an end. For now, however, it’s fair to question Notre Dame’s ability to develop pro-style quarterbacks.
