Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Dion Dawkins had a terrifying battle with COVID-19 this summer.
Dawkins, 27, told reporters on Tuesday he had a bout with coronavirus this year. He had to be hospitalized for four days, as a result, according to ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques.

During his hospital stay, Dawkins apparently had a tough time accepting his struggles. The Bills offensive lineman was shocked at how bad he felt, especially considering he’s a professional athlete.
“How am I a professional athlete and I’m down bad like this?” Dawkins said on Tuesday.

Dion Dawkins had been on the NFL’s COVID-19 list since last Thursday. He’s since re-joined the Bills, but continues to struggle in his recovery.
Bills head coach Sean McDermott told reporters last week that Dawkins has a ways to go before he returns to 100 percent.
“He’s not close to where he needs to be to play and help us,” McDermott said, via Matt Parrino of Syracuse.com. “He’s going to control what he can control, and so are we. He’s got to continue to work hard to get himself back to where he’s — I mean, this is what, going on week four of training camp at this point, so he’s missed a lot of time.”
Luckily Dawkins has plenty of time to get up to speed. The NFL’s regular season is still a few weeks away. Dawkins can recover off to the side while the rest of the Bills prepare for the 2021 season.
