NFL Analyst Makes Bold Statement On How Teams Will View Raiders QB Geno Smith

September 13, 2025 by Raiders Nation

Geno Smith, Raiders

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Geno Smith and company got off to a strong start to the 2025 season, beating the New England Patriots 20-13 to pick up their first victory of the year.

Smith was brilliant in his debut, throwing for 362 yards and one touchdown against one interception. With New England intent on shutting down Ashton Jeanty and the run game, Smith took to the air to move the football and give Las Vegas the win.

Smith looked comfortable and confident with the football, a positive sign for head coach Pete Carroll and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, who are banking on the veteran to carry them in 2025.

Smith’s performance instilled confidence in analysts like Leger Douzable, who believe teams are going to hate seeing the Raiders on their schedule via NFL on CBS:

“People are going to hate to see the Raiders on the schedule, and it’s because of Geno Smith. Nobody throws more perfect passes than him. He set a record for a quarterback debuting for the Raiders with 362 pass yards.”

Douzable also noted the rest of Las Vegas’ skill position players and how they’re poised to cause trouble, also:

“Brock Bowers I know he got banged up in the game and it seems like he will be alright, over 100 yards. He’s still a matchup no one wants to see at safety or linebacker. Jakobi Meyers, I know he wanted a new deal he played really well in that game. And you talked about Dont’e Thornton being that down the field threat they got him the ball a few times.

“I think this is a team…we didn’t even see the best of Ashton Jeanty. Now we saw a physical run at the goal line and that’s what he’s synonymous with but this is a team that people when they see them on their schedule they’re going to be like, ‘We’re in for a dogfight.’ I’m not saying they’re making the playoffs, but they’re going to be a tough out week in and week out.”

It’s early in the regular season, but there’s no doubt that the Silver and Black have a new look and feel to them. Hopefully, they can keep the momentum going when they take on the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 2.
