Last week, New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced that the city would require proof of a COVID-19 vaccination or negative test in order for people to enter restaurants, bars and other venues. That policy was expected to also apply to Caesars Superdome, home of the New Orleans Saints. That would mean if fans want to attend home games this year, they would likely need to meet the latest requirements for entry.
On Thursday, the Saints announced that they would comply with the city’s mandate.
In a press release this morning, the New Orleans-based NFL team shared that they would follow the latest guidelines in order to host a full crowd at Caesars Superdome during the 2021 season.
“The New Orleans Saints are grateful to have received all the necessary approvals to host a full capacity crowd at the Caesars Superdome this season,” the team said in a press release. “The Saints earned the No. 1 ranking in the NFL in Health and Safety in 2020 and are following the state and local protocols for our fans to safely attend games this season.”
The Saints also announced that they will be requiring fans to provide proof of either a single vaccination dose of a negative COVID-19 test in order to enter the Caesars Superdome. The organization will be working with Ochsner, a local hospital in Louisiana, to supply free vaccinations at the stadium for fans that wish to get a shot prior to entry.
“While the city is not exclusively requiring a full vaccine for entry it is requiring either proof of a single vaccination dose or a negative Covid-19 test for our fans to attend the game (fans that are 12 and under do not need to provide any proof of vaccination or negative test result),” the statement continued. “The City of New Orleans will permit fans to enter the stadium even if they receive their first Covid-19 vaccination shot on the day of the game. The Saints will be teaming with Ochsner to provide free Covid-19 vaccinations at the Caesars Superdome for fans who wish to choose this option.”

The Saints will open their season at home against the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 12 at 4:25 p.m ET.
The city of New Orleans has taken many steps to combat rising COVID-19 cases in recent weeks, so the latest policy that includes the Caesars Superdome comes as no surprise. It wouldn’t be shocking to see other cities and NFL venues implement similar measures before the start of the regular season.
